Ghost Hunters and Ghost Hunters International.
Ghost Hunters is an excellent show started by two plumbers who were into paranormal activity and began going to people's houses so see if they were haunted or not using computers, cameras, microphones, and other things to detect any sort of activity out of the ordinary. Ghost Hunters International is a show directly based off of Ghost Hunters. The major difference is that in the second one they travel the world looking ghosts. They are very similar in the respect that they use all the same type of equipment to detect spirits.
They set up of the show is almost exactly the same where they give a background on the area they are investigating and then have someone give them a tour of the area and talk about what they need to look for exactly. Then later, they set up all of their equipment and wander around trying to talk to spirits.
Some of the differences in the show is that most of the crew is not American like in the original, the equipment is less and of cheaper models, and they do not ever spend an entire episode on one place where as in the original they may do two small places and then one big one.
The differences and similarities are in certain places for a reason. In the American version the reason the cast would be all American is because as a culture we are always comfortable with our own looking after us, where as in the international one we are more comfortable with a mixture culture searching the world and not just our own. In the original Ghost Hunters the equipment is more and on the expensive side because they always remain local to the east coast and rarely travel very far. In the International version, they travel all over the world to exotic places, so money may be tight. The similarities remain because they are geared towards the same audience, or else the shows would be too different and they would lose audience.
It is all about the audiences perspective. Some people are more interested in the things happening in the Unites States than throughout the rest of the world, and vise-verse.
